Panic at the Pump Meg Jacobs talked about her book Panic at the Pump: The Energy Crisis and the Transformation of American Politics in the 1970s, in which she recalls the American energy crisis of the 1970s following OPEC’s decision to ban the export of oil to the United States in 1973. In her book, she argues that the embargo, which lasted a year, affected the nation’s physical and political infrastructure, as the government was slow to find solutions due to internal debates and ideological differences. close
