Historian Fredrik Logevall spoke about U.S. Cold War strategy. Professor Logevall argued that many American leaders used alarmist and excessively militant strategies to combat communism, despite what he said was a lack of an imminent threat to the U.S. Professor Logevall’s book, Embers of War: The Fall of an Empire and the Making of America’s Vietnam, won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for history and the 2013 Francis Parkman Prize.

This was the keynote address from an Oregon State University conference titled “Rethinking Grand Strategy.” close
