Panelists talked about automatic voter registration laws enacted in Oregon, California, Vermont, and West Virginia where eligible citizens are automatically registered to vote when obtaining a driver’s license. Twenty-eight states in 2016 had considered this new policy. Panelists included the 2012 Obama presidential campaign national field director and an experimental political science expert who studied the voting rates of automatically registered citizens. Opening remarks were made by California Secretary of State Alex Padilla.
