President Ford went on to win the Tennessee Republican primary by less than one percent of the vote over former California Governor Ronald Reagan. The race remained tight through the end of the primaries and wasn’t decided until the Republican convention in July, when President Ford secured the nomination by a slim margin on the first roll call.
