President Obama and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe delivered remarks following a wreath-laying ceremony at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial. President Obama said the U.S. and Japan had made choices since the Hiroshima bombing that should give the world hope. He also spoke about the alliance between the U.S. and Japan and about stopping the spread of nuclear weapons around the world. He concluded by saying the world needed to change its mindset about war and work toward peaceful cooperation. President Obama was the first sitting U.S. president to visit Hiroshima, site of the first U.S. nuclear attack in 1945. close
