Legal and public policy analysts talked about the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) May 6, 2016, ruling that would make electronic, or “e-cigarettes,” subject to the same federal rules as traditional cigarettes and other tobacco products. Many believed the new regime would drive most e-cigarettes makers out of the market after August 2019. They focused on public health implications, as well as the legal and legislative challenges to the FDA’s rule. close
