Joshua Wolf Shenk talked about the Black Mountain Institute’s City of Asylum program. Founded in 2001, City of Asylum Las Vegas was one of the first programs to offer a safe haven to writers facing censorship, imprisonment, or assassination in their home countries. Author Hossein Abkenar, a participant in the program also spoke about leaving his home in Iran to start a new life in the U.S.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2016 LCV Cities Tour” in Las Vegas, Nevada, from May 7-13 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Cox Communication cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
