Doom Towns
C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2016 LCV Cities Tour” in Las Vegas, Nevada, from May 7-13 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Cox Communication cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2.

Andrew Kirk talked about his book Doom Towns: The People and Landscape of Atomic Testing, in which he tells the history of atomic testing carried out by the U.S. government in the Nevada desert in graphic novel format. Mr. Kirk used oral histories, classified documents, and photographs to research the history of atomic testing. He spoke about his research and displayed art from the book drawn by Kristian Purcell.
