In response to the June 12, 2016, mass shooting at an Orlando, Florida, gay nightclub, Senator Christopher Murphy (D-CT) held the Senate floor for nearly 15 hours to talk about gun violence in the U.S. He called for legislation that would require background checks for private gun sales and a ban of gun sales to suspected terrorists on “no-fly” lists. He was joined by several other Senate colleagues. close
