Marielena Hincapie talked about the implications of the Supreme Court’s decision in U.S. v. Texas, which concerns President Obama’s executive actions on immigration. In November 2014 the president initiated Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA), which defers deportation of undocumented immigrants whose children are U.S. citizens or legal residents. He also expanded the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The court reached a 4-4 split decision in the case, thus leaving in place a lower court’s block of the expansion of DACA and implementation of DAPA. close
