Kristopher White talked about Confederate General James Longstreet’s counterattack during the May 1864 Battle of the Wilderness in northern Virginia. Mr. White described the aims of both the Union and Confederate armies at the start of the fighting and the impact of the battle on landscape. He also argued that General Longstreet’s wounding during this battle greatly affected Confederate command for the rest of the war.

This talk was part of the third annual Emerging Civil War Symposium at Stevenson Ridge, with the theme of “Great Attacks of the Civil War.” close
