Stephen Davis talked about the 1864 Battle of Atlanta and the engagements on July 22 just outside the city. He focused on Confederate General John Bell Hood’s attack on Union forces commanded by William Tecumseh Sherman. Mr. Davis compared General Hood’s tactics and the state of his army to those of Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson at 1863 Battle of Chancellorsville. Atlanta eventually fell to Sherman’s troops about six weeks later.

This talk was part of the third annual Emerging Civil War Symposium at Stevenson Ridge, with the theme of “Great Attacks of the Civil War.” close
