Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James and Chief of Staff General David Goldfein briefed reporters and responded to their questions on Air Force operations. Topics included the impact of a possible long-term continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government in fiscal year 2017. Secretary James said a CR would fund the Air Force at $1.3 billion less than the amount requested for 2017 and could delay as many as 60 programs, which would affect their ability to combat groups such as ISIS.* The officials also discussed a growing shortage of fighter pilots and ways to retain personnel.

* The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), or DAISH/DAESH in Arabic is a militant group that has called itself the Islamic State. close
