The Federal Communications Commission held the first meeting of the Robocall Strike Force, an industry-led team headed by AT&T Chair and CEO Randall Stephenson. The group’s goal is to find a technological solution to consumers receiving unwanted calls and texts even if they are on the National Do Not Call Registry. FCC Chair Tom Wheeler called robocalls a “scourge.”

Thirty-two other companies are taking part in the effort including Apple, Google and Microsoft. The task force will return to the commission in 60 days with recommendations for policymakers and steps companies will take to address the problem. close
