First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon addressed members of Parliament on Scotland’s place in Europe following the United Kingdom’s June 23, 2016, referendum. The decision to leave the European Union came just two years after Scotland voted to stay in the United Kingdom. Ms. Sturgeon, leader of the Scottish National Party, told members that she would do everything to protect Scotland’s interests, including the consideration of a second independence referendum if the country’s interests are not protected during U.K. negotiations with Europe. Following her remarks, she took questions from party leaders and members. close
