A three-judge panel on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral argument in a dispute between the media and the Obama administration. The Associated Press and 15 other media organizations were asking the court to order the release of graphic videos showing former Guantanamo Bay inmate Jihad Dhiab being force-fed during a hunger strike. The videos show him being forcibly removed from his cell, strapped to a restraining chair, and force-fed meals through a tube. The 32 classified videotapes were examined by the Court during the course of Jihad Dhiab’s habeas corpus proceedings. The Court would be considering whether the public had a First Amendment right to the videos or if the government’s interest in protecting national security was more important.
