The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee held a hearing on the State Department’s record keeping practices and the investigation into 2015 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s email use while serving as secretary of state. Bryan Pagliano, former senior adviser to Secretary Clinton for Information Resource Management, informed the committee ahead of time he would not be testifying. The committee chair, Representative Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), then adjourned the hearing and called the committee to order for a business meeting, during which members debated recommending a resolution to the full House of Representatives that would hold Mr. Pagliano in contempt of Congress for refusing to testify before the oversight panel. The recommendation passed on a 19-15 party- line vote. close
