The University of Virginia’s Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture hosted a series of presentations on their new survey addressing American political culture, which found widespread dissatisfaction with current electoral politics and political leaders. Presenters defined and explained the three categories of people labeled in the survey as “the disinherited,” "the disadvantaged," and “social elites,” and the various views and responses of each group. They described the 2016 presidential election as unprecedented and unusual, and explained how data from the survey reflected shifting views and positions of the American electorate. close
