Ann Schmitt and Doug Blodgett talked about the history of the Illinois River and its impact on the city of Peoria. Ms. Schmitt gave a tour of the “Illinois River Encounter” exhibit at the Peoria Riverfront Museum and said the river is still used as a means of transportation and is a vital part of Peoria’s economy. Peoria is the largest city on the Illinois River, and Mr. Blodgett explained how the city’s growth has changed the river.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2016 LCV Cities Tour” in Peoria, Illinois, from July 16-22 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
