Former diplomats and military officials participated in a forum on the arms buildup by the U.S. and the Soviet Union during the Cold War in a symposium on the politics of the Cold War. Lawrence Gershwin, national intelligence officer for the CIA, gave a briefing on the state of the military buildup at the beginning of the 1980s, followed by a discussion by U.S. and Soviet administration officials from the 1980s on the opposing perspectives on the arms race. After their presentations and cross-questioning, the panelists answered audience members' questions. A brief interview with, diplomatic reporter for the Washington Post, Dan Oberdorfer was shown before the panel discussion. close
