Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen testified at a Joint Economic Committee hearing on the U.S. economic outlook. She said an increase in the central bank’s interest rate could occur “relatively soon,” and talked about the various factors contributing to that decision. She said that overall the economy was in good health and that job growth was a particular bright spot. Asked directly if she intended to serve out her full term as chair, she said she saw no reason to step down before her term ended in January 2018. close
