More than 300 members of the United Kingdom’s youth parliament, ages 11 to 18, gathered in the British House of Commons for their annual debate of five topics being considered for their national campaign. During this portion of the event, youth parliament members did not debate one of their topics but discussed the idea of a “better, kinder democracy” and how it might be achieved in the nation, as well as around the world. Many expressed concern about the divisions among citizens today and said the solution to a better democracy involved accepting change and diversity. House of Commons Speaker John Bercow presided over this session. close
