Writing to Save a Life John Edgar Wideman talked about his book Writing to Save a Life: the Louis Till File, in which he discusses the execution of Louis Till by the U.S. Army in 1945 and the impact that it had on the legal case against those who killed Louis’s son, Emmett, in 1955. Louis Till was found guilty of murdering an Italian woman and raping two more. No one outside the government, including members of Louis Till’s family, knew about his fate until the details were leaked to the press after those who killed Emmett Till were found not guilty. close
