Surgeon General Vivek Murthy talked about the report his office published the previous week drawing attention to addiction and the role government should play in addressing the issue. The 400-page report notes that 78 people a day die from opioids and 20.8 million more have a substance abuse disorder. He hoped that the report, Facing Addiction in America, would have an impact similar to the 1964 surgeon general’s report on smoking. Other topics included the fate of the Affordable Care Act under a Trump administration, medical marijuana use, and gun violence. After the interview the reporters discussed his responses with the host. close
