Defense Secretary Ashton Carter reflected on the successes of the Defense Department during his tenure and offered recommendations for key worldwide military theaters such as the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region. He congratulated General James Mattis (Retired), President-elect Trump’s pick to replace Secretary Carter, and also encouraged Congress to pass the budget proposal his department set for fiscal year 2017 and beyond.

This was the closing session of the fourth annual Reagan National Defense Forum, “Peace Through Strength: National Defense and the New Administration.” It was held in the Walter and Leonore Annenberg Presidential Learning Center at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California. close
