Retiring Senator David Vitter (R-LA) came to the Senate floor to give his farewell address. He reflected on his time in office and how he worked to address the needs of his home state of Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the Deep Water Horizon oil rig explosion. He also talked about his stance against sanctuary cities and “too big to fail” and his support for term limits and a more affordable replacement to the current health care law. Senator Vitter served two terms in the Senate. Louisiana would be holding a runoff election December 10, 2016, to elect his successor. close
