The portrait, which would hang in the U.S. Capitol near the Senate chamber, was painted by artist Gavin Glakas, a former member of Senator Reid’s staff. Vice President Joe Biden and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were among the keynote speakers who participated in a tribute to Senator Reid. They commented on the results of the 2016 election and the death that day of John Glenn, former astronaut and senator. Other speakers included House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and incoming Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY).
