John Glenn, a decorated U.S. marine aviator and astronaut, was the first American to orbit the Earth and, much later in life, became the oldest person to travel to space. He represented Ohio in the U.S. Senate from 1974-1997. He died Thursday, December 8, 2016, at the age of 95.
Numerous eulogies were given by family members and friends, including Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Sherrod Brown(D-OH). An autobiographical video was shown intermittently throughout the service along with the poem “High Flight.” The service included prayers, readings, and military honors. Music included “America the Beautiful,” "Be Still My Soul" set to “Finlandia,” and “The Autumn Leaves.”
