Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala
C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2016 LCV Cities Tour” in San Diego, California, from November 5-11, to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Charter Spectrum and Cox Communications cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2.

Tony Falcon gave a tour of Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala, the first of 21 missions built in California during the 18th century. Mr. Falcon talked about the creations of the mission, the role it played in introducing Catholicism to Native Americans, and the tension created by the spread of religion in the region. The mission currently serves as an active parish and church.
