This 1977 U.S. Information Agency film documents the progress of African Americans by profiling several newly-elected black public officials. Narrated by James Earl Jones, the film includes interviews and scenes with Senator Edward Brooke (R-MA), Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson, Pennsylvania Secretary of State Delores Tucker, future Representative John Lewis (D-GA), and Representative Barbara Jordan (D-TX), the 1976 Democratic Convention keynote speaker. The film was originally created for overseas audiences and was restored by the National Archives. close
