Ms. Guinier spoke to reporters on the morning after President Clinton announcing he had withdrawn her name from nomination for the position of Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights in the Department of Justice. She announced her disappointment that she would not be able to forward her views on civil rights in a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee. President Clinton said he had withdrawn her name because he disagreed with many of her views concerning civil rights and an extended fight in the Senate for her nomination would be disruptive. She appeared at the news conference flanked by her husband and their child. close
