On his final day on the job, Defense Secretary Ash Carter spoke ahead of the regular briefing at the Pentagon to give details of overnight events including a U.S. airstrike in Libya targeting ISIL.* Following his remarks, he said goodbye to the press and in his final briefing Press Secretary Peter Cook answered additional questions about the airstrike, North Korea, and the Trump transition.

Secretary Carter talked with the press at the start of the briefing while waiting for the microphones to be fixed.
