Judge Neil Gorsuch made his first appearance on Capitol Hill after President Trump picked him for the seat on the U.S. Supreme Court left vacant by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia, meeting with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in his office. Vice President Mike Pence escorted Judge Gorsuch, along with former Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) who would be serving as the nominee’s so-called sherpa -- personally introducing him to senators and escorting him to meetings as well as the confirmation hearing. Senator McConnell and Vice President Pence spoke to the reporters present but did not respond to questions. close
