The Senate debated and spoke about through the night Betsy DeVos' nomination to be for secretary of education in the Trump administration. During the vote on her confirmation, President Mike Pence presided and cast the 51st vote to break the 50-50 tie, the first time in history the vice president has had to do so on a Cabinet member confirmation. Members also voted to move forward on Senator Jeff Sessions' (R-AL) nomination for attorney general. close
