Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) read from Rule 19's prohibition on statements that “impute to another senator, or to other senators, any conduct or motive unworthy or unbecoming a senator” and said “that line was crossed” by Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) the previous night. He said just because she was reading a statement from Coretta Scott King and quoting the late Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA), she cannot “evade that rule by somehow claiming, well, these weren’t my words, I was reading what someone else said.”
Senator Cornyn went on to defend Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) on voting rights, saying his record had been misrepresented. And he said Democrats were forcing the Senate to move slowly on confirming the president’s nominees. close
