U.S. Ambassador to Israel Confirmation Hearing David Friedman testified at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on his nomination to be U.S. ambassador to Israel. Mr. Friedman, a bankruptcy attorney, advised President Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign and with past bankruptcy proceedings. He told committee members he regrets the “inflammatory rhetoric” used during the campaign and promised to be “respectful and measured” if confirmed. Democratic members voiced their concerns throughout the hearing about Mr. Friedman’s critical language about President Obama, Senate Democrats, State Department diplomats, and J Street, a liberal Jewish advocacy group. In addition, he addressed the Middle East peace process, saying he supports a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and would not campaign for Israel’s annexation of the West Bank. close
