Kristen Green talked about her book, Something Must Be Done About Prince Edward County: A Family, a Virginia Town, a Civil Rights Battle. In the 1954 Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education, the Court unanimously decided that separate but equal public schools were unconstitutional. Following that decision, schools around the country were forced to integrate. However, Prince Edward County in Virginia refused to do so. Instead, they closed their schools down for five years rather than admit African American students.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2017 LCV Cities Tour” in Richmond, Virginia, from January 21-27 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. close
