He spoke about how ending slavery became a major goal for the Union as the war progressed and discussed the piecemeal ways slavery was ended in border states and in Confederate territory. He argued that emancipation was a process achieved gradually, rather than happening solely by the Emancipation Proclamation or the 13th Amendment. close
