James Haley, author of Captive Paradise: A History of Hawaii, talked about the life of musician, composer, and author Liliuokalani, the last Queen of the Kingdom of Hawaii. Mr. Haley also told the story of modern Hawaii from the arrival of Captain James Cook in 1778 through a U.S. Marine backed overthrow and removal of the queen in 1893 and annexation of the islands in 1898. This was part of the University of Mary Washington’s Crawley Great Lives lecture series. close
