Federal officials and medical professionals testified on the opioid epidemic and the federal response to the drug Fentanyl. The hearing focused on the connection between opioid drug prescriptions and addiction in patients, lack of resources in rural areas where cases of drug addiction are rising, and combating drug trafficking along the U.S. border. Democratic members also asked how future rehabilitation programs and health care access would be affected if the Affordable Care Act were repealed. close
