Elaine Jones spoke about her life and career. Ms. Jones served as president and director-counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund from 1993 to 2004, the first woman to hold the position. Ms. Jones was also the first African American woman to graduate from the University of Virginia School of Law and the first African American to serve on the American Bar Association’s Board of Governors. This interview is from the “Explorations in Black Leadership” project, co-directed by University of Virginia professors Phyllis Leffler and Julian Bond. close
