The Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee held a confirmation hearing for Securities and Exchange nominee Jay Clayton, a Wall Street attorney who has represented several prominent investment firms, including Goldman Sachs. Members of the committee asked Mr. Clayton about his experience on Wall Street and his views on several regulatory cases, cybersecurity challenges and his possible conflicts of interest. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) pressed Mr. Clayton on his conflicts of interest and potential recusals and asked how that would affect future SEC votes. If confirmed, Mr. Clayton said he would not be able to vote on issues concerning his clients at his firm Sullivan and Cromwell for two years. close
