European Council President Donald Tusk delivered a statement in Brussels following British Prime Minister Theresa May’s filing of a six-page notice that she was triggering Article 50, the official start of the U.K.'s withdrawal from the European Union, also known as “Brexit.” President Tusk said the occasion was no cause for celebration in either London or Brussels, and vowed that he and other European leaders would negotiate the U.K.'s exit with a focus on minimizing costs to E.U. citizens, businesses, and member states. He took no questions from reporters after his statement. close
