Secretary of State Rex Tillerson Statement on Syria

Following the conclusion of the G-7 foreign leaders meeting in Italy, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson issued a brief statement to reporters about the recent missile strikes in Syria. He said the missile strikes were a direct response to the al-Assad regime’s “barbarism” and added that the normalization of the use of chemical weapons could not be accepted. On Russia’s role, Secretary Tillerson said Russia failed to uphold the agreements under the U.N. Security Council resolutions and that he hoped the Russian government would see that they’ve aligned themselves with an “unreliable partner” in Assad. close
