Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed supporters in Ankara after a referendum vote that would expand powers to the president and could potentially extend President Erdogan’s term in office to 2029. He told the crowd that the nation had made its decision and challenged the opposition to accept the results of the vote. Turkey’s main opposition party, the Republican People’s Party, demanded a recount. One day after he gave these remarks, President Erdogan announced that the constitutional changes would be implemented by the November 2019 elections. close
