Soner Cagaptay talked about his book, The New Sultan: Erdogan and the Crisis of Modern Turkey, about how president Recep Tayyip Erdogan has cemented his rule and at what cost to his country’s stability and democratic future. Following his remarks, panelists talked about the Turkish referendum vote that gave the President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expanded executive powers and offered their predictions for Turkey’s future. Much of the discussion focused on concerns about the external relations Turkey would face under President Erdoğan’s expanded powers, particularly in regards to Syria’s ongoing civil conflict. close
