Following his meeting with Taro Aso, the Japanese deputy prime minister and finance minister, during a trip to Japan, Vice President Pence and Mr. Aso held a press conference in Tokyo. The two leaders talked about the importance of the U.S.-Japan partnership on both economic and military matters. Mr. Aso offered assurances that Japan would stand behind the United States as it confronted threats from North Korea, which days earlier tried but failed to launch an intercontinental ballistic missile. Vice President Pence also responded to questions on President Trump’s decision to withdraw the U.S. from the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade pact. close
