France 24 provided immediate analysis and live coverage of France’s presidential election in which far-right candidate Marine Le Pen and independent centrist candidate Emmanuel Marcon got the most votes. The two were to face each other in the May 7, 2017, runoff contest. This was the first time in modern French history that no candidate from a mainstream party advanced to the runoff.

This 30-minute portion of France 24's coverage covered several topics, including a preview of France’s upcoming parliamentary election in June, the collapse of France’s mainstream political party system, and future relations with Europe if Mr. Macron or Ms. Le Pen wins the presidency. close
