Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) was among the members who spoke in the chamber the day after President Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey. He said there was bipartisan agreement that the U.S. should “get to the bottom” of Russia’s interference in the 2016 election. He did not explicitly mention the firing of Mr. Comey or the FBI, but he defended Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, saying Mr. Rosenstein had bipartisan support until the previous day and could be trusted with an investigation. close
