President Trump spoke at the Arab Islamic American Summit in Riyadh about efforts to combat global terrorism and confront extremist ideology. In his remarks, he avoided some of the rhetoric he used during the 2016 presidential, including “radical Islamic terrorism.” He stressed that his administration would not tell people how to live, what to be, or who to worship, but instead would offer partnership. He said the U.S. was prepared to stand with the Middle East, but the region could not wait for American powers to defeat the enemies. He also outlined the U.S. approach, saying his administration would be guided by lessons of experience and not rigid thinking or sudden interventions.
